UK Roads Liaison Group

Future programme

The UK Roads Liaison Group develops an annual research programme proposal, which is put to Department for Transport Ministers for funding approval. The UKRLG secretariat welcomes research proposals for inclusion in the programme in future.

The UKRLG intends to commission the following projects in 2006/07:

Development of a database to support the National Roads Maintenance Condition Survey (NRMCS)
Development of national guidance on commuted sum criteria and payments
Design standards for local highway authority roads - scoping study
Development of a bridge engineer’s decision support tool
Highway service levels - further factors
Cost-benefit analysis of the impact of street lighting on night-time road casualties
Design of masonry bridge parapets
Review of the class and quality of street lighting provided on traffic routes and in residential streets
Development of a code of practice for the maintenance of traffic management systems
Assessing the effects of early life skid resistance
Review of bridge inspection competence and training
Street lighting performance indicators
Improving the assessment of skidding resistance
Footway and cycleroute information requirements
Road safety and passive safety lighting columns

Researchers interested in being considered for any of these projects are asked to email edward.bunting@dft.gsi.gov.uk  Contracts are generally let by limited competitive tender.
