Sustainability in construction layers and materials

As part of the need to consider whole life costing of asset management, local authorities have an increased need to consider how they can specify and procure highway maintenance materials and techniques that contribute to the Government's sustainability agenda.  Inappropriate decisions now can have adverse impacts in future years.

This research should lead to improved local authority road maintenance and procurement, through the production of best practice guidance for local highway authorities and contractors.

The work is being undertaken by TRL Ltd and a final report is expected in mid-2007
