Initial study of transverse profile analysis
This project was commissioned to look at the ways in which transverse profile measurements are made by TRACS surveys on the trunk road network, and to determine how appropriate these methods would be on local roads. The project looked at the range of dimensions likely to be encountered on the main types of local roads. It also considered how changes in the configuration of sensors on the survey vehicles could improve the quality of transverse profile data. The project recommended a method for assessing the transverse profile of pavements, based on existing hardware capabilities.
The work was undertaken by TRL Limited. The final project report is here.
The results of this research project were incorporated in the SCANNER specification for 2005.
