The government has launched its first ‘Road investment strategy’. These documents set out an ambitious, long-term programme for our motorways and major roads with the stable funding needed to plan ahead effectively. 

• provide a world-class strategic network
• reduce congestion
• support jobs and economic growth
• improve road safety
• minimise any negative impact on the environment

• an overview with a summary of the ‘Road investment strategy’ and its impact
• a long-term vision for the strategic road network, outlining how we will create smooth, smart and sustainable roads
• a multi-year investment plan that will be used to improve the network and create better roads for users
• challenging high-level objectives for the first roads period 2015 to 2021

• turning the Highways Agency into a government-owned strategic highways company
• introducing supporting legislation – part 1 of the Infrastructure Bill is currently going through Parliament
